Book Covers in Femslash || by M. Hollis

A book is never a solitary effort, or at least, it shouldn’t be. It doesn’t matter if you are published traditionally, indie, or self-pub, you’ll need people to help you with things like editing, formatting, and cover design.

Thinking about that, I decided to share today a few of my favorite book covers in Femslash. There are so many wonderful covers that I find it hard to choose just a few, but I tried to contain myself!

I couldn’t find the name of a few artists and I’d love to credit all of them. So, if you see one missing and if you know who worked with it, let me know.

So here we go, in no particular order:

treasure

Book: Treasure

Cover Designer: Gabrielle Pendergrast

Author: Rebekah Weatherspoon

Treasure is a delight of a cover. I love the black girl smiling and the pretty colors all around her, combined with the bright title. It gives the right feeling about the book that brings a warm, sexy, and bittersweet story with a nice happy ending.

knit one

Title: Knit One, Girl Two

Cover designer: Jane Dominguez

Author: Shira Glassman

The moment Shira shared this cover on Twitter I was already in love with it. It’s such a cute one and the art is so beautiful. The two girls kissing are such a rare thing to find in covers and it makes me so happy!

take me home
Title: Take me Home

Cover Designer: L. C. Chase

Author: Lorelie  Brown

Simple covers are my favorites and Take me Home it’s a nice example of a great idea for a contemporary romance. I like the pink in the details, the tattoos and the short hair that represents the love interest in the story so well.

not your sidekick
Title: Not Your Sidekick

Cover designer: C.B. Messer

Author: C.B. Lee

Not Your Sidekick is one of the best book covers out there, no doubts. The artist is really good at what they do. The Vietnamese-Chinese American girl on the cover of a superhero YA book is outstanding. And even better, the inside of the book has more art decorating the beginning of each chapter.

cinder ella

Title: Cinder Ella

Cover Designer: ??

Author: S.T. Lynn

This book flew off my radar for so long because I didn’t know at first it was F/F and I feel the need to rec it to everyone all the time now. The cover gets it absolutely right in bringing all the fairytale and magical vibe around the black girl in such a dreamy way.

juliet
Title: Juliet Takes a Breath

Cover Artist: ??

Author: Gabby Rivera

Another great art in this cover with the cool butch Puerto Rican rep and the smart use of Juliet’s hair to write the title. It’s the perfect cover for a coming of age story that brings so much depth of character.

second kiss
Title: Second Kiss

Cover Artist: Chelsea M. Cameron

Author: Chelsea M. Cameron

This is the kind of simple cover I love so much that I’m almost jealous because I wish I could do something like that! The font is beautiful and the flower in the background are all perfectly matched both on this and on the second novella of this series.

huntres
Title: Huntress

Cover Artist: ??

Author: Malinda Lo

A badass fantasy cover for a badass book. I own this one in paperback, one of the very few F/F I actually managed to find here in Brazilian bookstores! I like that people look at it on my bookshelf and think “wow Maria does love some dark fantasy books” and no one knows about my love for the girls kissing in between these pages. Haha

terracotta bride

Title: The Terracotta Bride

Cover Artist: Likhain

Author: Zen Cho

This a perfect detailed cover. The Terracotta Bride in the forefront and the way the details from the afterlife hell are all coming from her head in flames is amazing.

finding lizzie
Title: Finding Lizzie

Cover Artist: Natasha Snow

Author: Karma Kingsley

I have to admit I have yet to read this book! But I have been so in love with this cover since I first saw it. I love the mixing of the layers using the main character and the city. This would be the perfect poster for an F/F drama movie and I kind of need this in my life.

bearly a lady
Title: Bearly a Lady

Cover Artist: art by Muna Abdirahman and design by Kenda Montgomery

Author: Cassandra Khaw

Bearly a Lady is my most recent favorite novella. It’s such a fun paranormal chick-lit and the cover brings all the right elements: the bear, the girl, the city.

queens of geek
Title: Queens of Geek

Cover Artist: ??

Author: Jen Wilde

Queens of Geek is another one that I have yet to read but from everything I read about it, I know I’m going to love it. This is also a cover that calls my attention right away in any book list because it’s so simple but the bright pink and big letters favor it so well.

Thank you! You know, one of the two women who inspired Clara (the girl on the left) is also named Marina!
